Namiki's Stylus Tip

The reproduce the sound from a record, the tip of the stylus travels directly in the walls of record groove and traces the delicate tremors, which are transduced to sound reproducing circuit. In this respect, the performance of the stylus is extremely important to the function of the cartridge.

Namiki’s stylus is made of carefully selected natural diamond to maintain its quality through its high degree of manufacturing technology in cutting, faceting, finishing and final assembly of stylus with cantilever.

Each stylus made by Namiki is intensively inspected under an electronic microscope and other sophisticated instruments to guarantee its highest quality.

We use the same quality diamond in our styli as that which is used in jewelry. This material is polished with our ultraprecision processing technique. For example, a round stylus could be processed to 0.5 mil (0.0127mm), or an elliptical stylus to 0.3 x 0.7 mil. Due to our highly advance technology, a diamond stylus can truly realize the art of the sound.
a) Top-quality octahedral diamond is used as the raw material.
b) Diamond powder is used to polish along the crystal axis.
In order to process the tip, the crystal is inserted into a metal rod and carefully polished.
c) The point can be formed into desired shape, such as round or ellipse.
Afterwards, the crystal is removed from the metal rod and the opposite end is cut down.

How various types of reproducing styli contact record groove

Reproducing styli are different in shape from cutting stylus witch cuts record groove. This is the reason why tracing distortion at the maximum amplification is inevitable.
